Stepping out from a hiding place,
the mythical moose appears at a
salt lick only 20 feet from our cabin,
high in the Rocky Mountains. Not
craving attention or hoping his photo
receives a million views on social media,
his only interest, at that moment, is to
enjoy a salty treat. We marvel at the
mile-wide expanse of antlers,
a Crown of Courage atop his massive,
muscular frame, as we snap photo after
photo as proof of the gifted sighting.
Tiring of the salt, or perhaps us,
the mountain king lumbers our way,
slow and stately, before turning to
magically disappear into the safe
anonymity of the lush Colorado forest.
